Creating Boundaries Boosts Productivity
We all know that we need to set boundaries. Boundaries around when we work. Boundaries around who we spend time with.
We may even have good boundaries. The notifications on our computers and phones are turned off in the evenings. We say no to the coworker/family member who asks for too much. Self-care is a priority in our lives.
But the thing about boundaries is that they are always shifting and changing. New people come into our life. We go through a busier time in our work or life. Suddenly we are overwhelmed and distracted again!
We need to revisit our boundaries from time to time and it helps to keep in mind that if we set rules and limits for ourselves, we will have more to offer others.
By limiting distractions, saying no to others and yes to ourselves, we actually increase the amount of love and support we can give back to the world. Creating boundaries will boost your productivity and have a positive ripple effect on everyone around you!
Boundaries Around Your Time
In our fast paced world, you must put some thought into how you structure your day (especially if you are working from home)! While some pride themselves on their ability to multi-task, you are actually less productive when you do so.
Set a schedule for work. Your schedule does not need to look like others. You may decide to work in the evenings. However, your schedule should include a realistic number of hours and leave time for family, friends and yourself.
During your workday, be sure to set aside times when no one will interrupt you. I recommend you block out times for creative projects and separate times for checking email and making calls. During your creative work time (writing proposals, blog posts, content, etc.), turn off the alerts on your phone and computer.
Boundaries Around People
It is okay to say no! When you say no to one thing, you are saying yes to something else.
Be aware of people pleasing! We all have a friend or family member that talks for too long or asks for too many favors. Yes, you need to make time for that person. However, you do not need to give them all of your time. Choose times of the day when you don’t answer the phone and choose certain tasks that you are willing to do for them.

Boundaries Around Energy
Have you ever walked away from a situation and felt completely drained?
Be aware of who/what depletes your energy. Is it a person? The number of people at an event? Bright lights? Noise? It may also be the amount of time spent doing an activity.
Again, figure out a way to say no. Delegate tasks, choose a different location, reduce the time spent on this task. For example, I limit my zoom meetings during the day and request phone calls when I can.
If you can’t get out of a situation, allow more time for self-care. Schedule some down time or a dinner with a loved one. Take a hot bath, drink some tea, go for a run. Find ways to recharge!
Draw a line in the sand! Take a look at how you spend your time, who lights you up and the activities that bring your joy. Reduce or eliminate the activities that pull you down. Creating boundaries will not just benefit you. Your increased productivity ripples out to benefit everyone around you!
